Donald Norberg could get prison time if he’s found guilty of stealing the gun of a Dunn County sergeant.

The 37-year-old is jailed in La Crosse for his alleged role in the theft of a handgun belonging to Sheriff’s Sergeant Todd Kurtzhals.

A backpack belonging to the sergeant was stolen last month, while he was washing his car during a visit to La Crosse and the gun was in the bag.

“The offense obviously is a serious one,” Judge Scott Horne said in court Monday. “It involves theft of a firearm of a law enforcement officer.”

Horne set bond for Norberg at $2,500. Three people are suspected of taking the backpack with them and allegedly trading the gun for drugs.
