New Lisbon man admits supplying gun, but says other man shot the victim

A Juneau County man gets a long prison sentence, 36 years, for a 2016 murder which he claims he did not commit.

Turner Wood of New Lisbon pled guilty last year to felony murder, for the shooting death of Adam Garcia.

Police say two masked intruders entered Garcia’s Sparta home to rob him, and one shot and killed Garcia as he was rising from a chair.

Before Friday’s hearing in Monroe County Court, Wood attempted to withdraw his guilty plea, but decided to go ahead with sentencing instead.

The 24-year-old Wood said in court that the actual killer was a man named John, and admitted giving John the gun that killed Garcia.

Judge Todd Ziegler sentenced Wood to 25 years in prison for the murder, plus 11 more years for lesser charges.

That sentence will be added on to a prison term Wood is serving for a different crime.

Members of the Garcia family submitted statements at the hearing, with Adam’s mother writing to Wood “may your days be filled with pain and misery.”

Adam’s brother Eric Garcia, wearing an orange jail uniform, spoke at the hearing and told Wood “I really want to hurt you.”

A second suspect in the murder, Matthew Rasmussen, is scheduled to go on trial in October.
