Foxconn, road funding could still derail budget

Members of Wisconsin’s legislature expect to vote on the state budget the third week of September.

Meanwhile, public schools and universities will be starting classes.

When asked Wed. about the state of the budget, which called for massive increases in education, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse chancellor Joe Gow said he was cautiously optimistic.

“We do know that there’s still some matters involving transportation to be resolved at the state level,” Gow warned, however, “and the recent Foxconn idea, that too will take some money.”

State funding to the UW System had been cut a total of $362 million from fiscal 2012 to 2017, according to UW System officials.

Gow said there are 2,127 students coming to the UW-L campus this fall.
