Red Cross sent 47 volunteers, could train more

The devastation in Texas is expected to continue as more rain is in the forecast for the next few days.

With so many in peril, the American Red Cross Wisconsin Chapter is providing relief.

Tom Mooney, head of the Wisconsin chapter says the response has been more challenging than in the past.

“with the roads and infrastructure so compromised because of the high waters, we’re not able to get in like we normally would be able to get in after a hurricane,” Mooney said.

Mooney’s chapter has sent 47 volunteers to assist and could be looking to send more soon.

They will offer boot camp-like training, “in order for them to go down and do certain jobs that we feel they could do without a lot of training,” he said.

Mooney says the best way you can help right now is by donating funds to the Red Cross that will be used in the relief effort.
