Babe Weigent statue unveiled
Members of Weigent family help dedicate coach’s statue
Babe Weigent is officially back at 16th and Cass streets in La Crosse.
A bronze statue of the long-time Central High School teacher and coach, standing next to a young football player, has been unveiled as part of a Central reunion weekend.
Walter “Babe” Weigent served on the Central faculty for more than 30 years – mostly at the old Central High, which stood on the block now called Weigent Park.
Weigent’s daughters, Jenifer Weigent Gilbert and Dana Weigent, led family members at the dedication ceremony on Friday afternoon.
