Wisconsin’s lone Democratic candidate for governor, campaigning in La Crosse this weekend

Wednesday, Bob Harlow talked about some of his ideas for Wisconsin on WIZM.

Only one Democrat has officially declared to run against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in 2018.

And, that person is making a campaign stop in La Crosse this weekend, hitting his message of infrastructure investment pretty hard.

Bob Harlow was on WIZM on Wed. afternoon talking about his plans for the state he hopes to govern.

“So, what we need to do is start investing in Wisconsin again,” Harlow said. “That doesn’t mean spending more, that just means stop giving all these tax breaks to special interests who have bought our government.”

Harlow insists that big tax breaks for business in the state – like the controversial manufacturing tax credit – is not only bad economic policy but simply lines the pockets of big campaign donors to Republicans.

Harlow is a 20-something recent Stanford University graduate that believes growing manufacturing, and the jobs that go with it, comes with putting big money into infrastructure, funding education and greatly improving internet access, among other things.

“We’ll help farmers and we’ll help manufactures get their product to market,” he said. “And we’ll make it a lot more attractive to do manufacturing in Wisconsin.

“And, also, we’ll make it so manufacturers will be able to pay better jobs because they have more productive plants.”

Harlow also talked about improving the rails for both passengers and freight.

“I am proposing a 200 mph high-speed rail line for passengers,” Bob Harlow said. “And, along side that, we’re going to make new freight lines, too. And, those freight lines will double the speed of freight rail moving through our state.”
