La Crosse K-Mart on national closing list

September closing expected for State Road store

There used to be two K-Mart stores in La Crosse. Soon, there will be none. 

Sears has announced that the K-Mart on State Rd. in La Crosse will be closed by September. 

It’s one of 49 K-Marts around the U.S. on the newest list of stores being shut down. 

The K-Mart near Losey Blvd. has been open since the mid-1960s, and was La Crosse’s second big-box store, after the old Bell Discount on the causeway. 

It closed for a time in 2011, after the roof was damaged by a tornado. 

A second K-Mart opened near Valley View Mall in the 1980s, but it closed several years ago.
