Chancellor Gow frustrated by event

University of Wisconsin-Madison officials were under fire for not forcefully dealing with fans who dressed up as Obama with a noose around their neck the Badgers football game against Northwestern.

Here in town, UW-La Crosse is responding to an off-campus incident that took place Tuesday night, where somebody wrote the message pictured above on a student of color’s door.

“We will keep looking into this and hopefully find the people who are responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law,” UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow said, frustrated by the events. “We’re always working hard to make a better culture and you have an incident like this and it really shatters everything we’ve been trying to do.”

Written on the school’s campus climate Facebook page was the following.

Hate is not a UWL family value. The below image shows a hate crime that was experienced by some of our students this morning.

In another reported situation, a student who was speaking Spanish today was told, “Didn’t you hear that Trump was elected? You can’t speak that anymore. We’re building a wall. You should be taken back to your country…”

Please join us in our efforts to reject prejudice, discrimination and acts of hate/bias in order to maintain and further a culturally diverse and inclusive campus climate where all identities and perspectives are embraced.

If you experience or witness hate/bias, report it!

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
