Integrity units to monitor polling places in La Crosse, seven other cities Nov. 8

Attorney general being sent to “protect the democratic process”

La Crosse is one of seven cities that will be visited by the state attorney general’s election integrity units.

Apparently, it is not a condemnation of anything that has occurred in the city before now. Just an opportunity for the state department of justice to help prevent fraud and other illegal activity on election day.  

Since 2004, the state has had assistant attorneys general and special agents visit cities and counties during big elections.

According to attorney general Brad Schimel, the units are being sent to, in his words, “protect the democratic process in our state on Election Day.” 

The units will monitor polling sites for such violations as electioneering, observer misconduct or wrongful denial of right to vote.

Assistant attorneys general and special agents from the Division of Criminal Investigation will be sent in teams to the counties Brown, Dane, Outagamie, Rock, Milwaukee, as well as Eau Claire, Kenosha, La Crosse, Racine, Stevens Point, Waukesha and Wausau.

The office claims that past visits of special integrity units to some places in the state have uncovered double voting and malfunctioning voting machines.
