Minnesota Supreme Court being asked to remove Trump-Pence from ballot

Early voting in state begins Sept. 23

MINNEAPOLIS — The DFL Party is asking the state Supreme Court to remove Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and running mate Mike Pence from the general election ballot in Minnesota. 

A petition filed late Thursday asks the court to order the secretary of state to strip the names off the Nov. 8 ballot. The party claims Secretary of State Steve Simon erred when he accepted the state Republican Party’s “certificate of nomination” last month because proper procedure was not followed when alternate electors were nominated. 

The Republican Party executive committee met to select and approve 10 alternate presidential electors, according to the Star Tribune. 

The DFL Party says the alternatives should be nominated at the delegate convention, not unilaterally by party leaders.
