Construction worker uncovered shell on Main St.

The artillery shell was over 100 years old when workers in Galesville, Wis., found it. And, it still worked.

Police in Galesville had their hands full on Saturday, clearing part of downtown after construction workers uncovered an artillery shell on South Main St.

Police evacuated the area while members of a bomb squad from the 934th Airlift Wing in Minneapolis performed X-rays on the shell. They determined it was a live but severely deteriorated American 75mm round from 1907.

The squad took the round to a safe area and detonated it.
