Gun control doesn’t work? Ask Australia.
John Oliver’s three-part series from Daily Show
The mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando has, again, sparked talks of gun control in the U.S.
As we know, 49 innocent people were killed and 53 more were wounded.
The Daily Show went off on the Senate’s inability to pass basic gun measures back in 2013.
It sparked a three-part series from John Oliver highlighting a mass shooting at a popular tourist destination in Tasmania, Australia.
In April of 1996, the Port Arthur massacre killed 35 people and wounded 23 more. The killing spree by 28-year-old Martin Bryant led to a swift response by government to ban all semiautomatic and automatic weapons. Officials also institured a gun buyback program – reducing firearms (650,000) by one third – and convinced state governments to ban weapons outright.
There hasn’t been a mass shooting since.
Here’s the series.
