Race turns deadly on highway 53

Accident closes highway for hours

The driver of a 1930’s roadster has been killed after going out of control near Holmen and crashing into another car. 

The custom, 1934 Chevrolet reportedly was racing with a third car in the area of Hwy. OT on Wednesday afternoon, and probably was going too fast when it went off the road and rolled.  It hit a guardrail and then crossed onto Highway 53, where it struck an oncoming car. 

The roadster’s driver died after being thrown from the car.  Two people had minor injuries in the car that collided with the roadster. 

Holmen police are trying to find the car which was racing with the roadster.  All they know is that the car was black.

Traffic was tied up on the north lanes of Highway 53 for hours while crews worked to clear the accident.

Police say names of those involved will not be released until families have been notified.
