Trump sounds off, but veterans still wondering about $6 million he said he raised

Trump says media lies, as media reports on his lies

Donald Trump posted on social media Tuesday, boasting, again, he raised $6 million for vets, including a $1 million from his own pocket.

“I raised almost $6 million, including putting up $1 million of my own money. I had no obligation to do anything or to do so. And I get nothing but bad press from the dishonest media. It is absolutely disgraceful. Why don’t they look at the Clinton Foundation?” Trump said on the post.

Trump skipped out on a Republican debate back in January to host a fundraiser for veterans, boasting the entire time he had raised $6 million. Vets are still waiting.

Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the Washington Post that amount is more like $4.5 million. He went on to blame others, of course, for not hitting that $6-million mark – mainly, big money donors who didn’t come through.

Also, even with Trump’s $1 million he said he donated – which he hasn’t yet – that still leaves veterans $500,000 short. Lewandowski didn’t  know if Trump’s donation was part of the $6 million he bragged about or not. He also didn’t know the exact amount, either. Is it $4.5 million, $6 million, $1 million.

The Post believed it was more like $3.1 million raised for the vets.

Tuesday, the Marine Corps Law-Enforcement Foundation, which is where all the money – whatever the amount is – is being donated, told CNN that Trump was sending a $1-million check via FedEx and it would arrive Wednesday morning. Who sends a check via FedEx?

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Trump has lied about … anything, including donating $1 million to veterans and then not coming through with that donation.

“You can find one example right on Trump’s own website, CNN reported, where Trump boasts of saving an annual veterans parade in 1995 with his participation, and a cash donation, “Mr. Trump agreed to lead as grand marshal,” and “made a $1 million matching donation to finance the Nation’s Day Parade.”

Trump did save the event, according to the parade’s organizer, but he didn’t give $1 million to it.

Vincent McGowan, the president emeritus of the United War Veterans of New York and the organizer of the Nation’s Day Parade in 1995 said the actual donation amount was somewhere between $325,000-$375,000.

At least Trump didn’t have to debate in Iowa that January evening.
