Is Wisconsin voter ID law hampering absentee ballots?

If there’s going to be problems with photo IDs at the polls for the upcoming April 5 election, local clerks say you can’t tell by how absentee voting is going.

There doesn’t appear to be mass confusion over voter ID laws going into effect in Wisconsin as voters begin submitting absentee ballots.

“Folks are coming in with their photo ID, so they’re coming in prepared,” La Crosse city clerk Teri Lehrke said. “We’ve asked that question if anybody has expressed any concern, and my staff has said people are remembering to bring their photo ID, like they’ll have to do on election day.”

Lehrke is already handling dozens of ballots during the first couple of days of early absentee voting.  

Absentee voting began in the state Monday and runs through April 1. Wisconsin’s presidential preference and spring election vote is on April 5.
