Study shows La Crosse County’s health is improving

County ranks 15th of 72 in state

The overall health of La Crosse County is improving according to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

The county is 15th out of 72 in the state. The year prior, La Crosse was ranked 19th.

“This study … (is) telling us, it that outcomes have improved steadily since 2011,” La Crosse County public health director Jen Rombalski said.

Rombalski added that several agencies work together to keep the county’s health level where it should be.

“La Crosse has a lot of resources, organizations that work together, but it takes really knowing and understanding the communities of which the people of La Crosse County live, work, learn and play,” she said. “Because that’s the only way you really know what’s happening and can help people help themselves.”

To reach its ranking, the county improved four spots, including alcohol-related traffic deaths and teen birth rates.
