Middle school honored at board meeting

La Crosse’s Longfellow Middle School is officially an Apple Distinguished School.

Apple representatives presented the award to principal Penny Reedy and other staff at the most recent school board meeting.

Math teacher Randy Kettlehut says the school purchasing iPads for all students several years ago has made a big difference.

“The great thing about technology use at Longfellow is the opportunity it creates for all our students,” Kettlehut said. “It not only equalizes the playing field, but it also allows us to redesign curriculum to be more rigorous, to be more real world, to be more applicable to our students.

Apple gives the designations for visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, compelling evidence of success and a flexible learning environment.
