State money for biking/walking being used for road building

Coalition says over $8
million has been taken

There is a lot of money out there for transportation alternative infrastructure in Wisconsin. 

In fact, the feds have a Transportation Alternatives Program to make things easier for walkers and bikers.

According to a coalition of groups advocating for more human powered transportation in Wisconsin, however, much of the money available to the state through that program is being used for road building.

The coalition says lawmakers have been redirecting more than half of the $16 million available for biking and walking infrastructure to roads.

Currently, the state allocates about 1 percent of the nearly $700 million in fed money it gets for local transportation projects to biking and walking infrastructure improvements.
