Democrats talking student debt. Feb. 8 at UW-L

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has been promoting ideas to make college more affordable in the state, but his list of ideas do not include the refinancing of student loans.

Democrats have been touting that concept without much support from Walker, and three local democratic lawmakers want to bring students together in La Crosse to talk about loan debt.

Representatives Jill Billings and Steve Doyle and Sen. Jennifer Shilling have announced a campus meeting on student debt for Feb. 8 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Centennial Hall.

The Walker program has emphasized solutions, such as providing tax deductions on the interest from student loans.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
