volunteers through Christmas Eve

It was a one-day record for the La Crosse Salvation Army. Match Day brought in $161,718.

So, the La Crosse Salvation Army’s having another Red Kettle Campaign match day on Dec. 19.

On the Dec. 12 Match Day, the campaign saw a record-setting $86,718 from donations, checks and other gifts. Combine that with the $75,000 Match Day anonymous donation and the group is nearly halfway to its $874,000 goal.

The second Match Day, Dec. 19, kettles will be matched by a number of local businesses and individuals, up to $48,000.

“I am truly humbled by the generosity of this community,” said Army Major Jack Holloway. “Every day we see people who are desperately trying to put their lives together. Sometimes they need just a little help; sometimes they need a lot. We want to be there for them.”

Nearly all kettle sites were staffed with ringers on the first Match Day, which contributed to the record number of donations.

Approximately 554 bell ringing shifts are still open between now and December 24, including 55 open shifts on the second Match Day.
