New downtown parking ramp agreement stalled

Ramp could cost around $13 million

A stalled agreement on a new parking ramp in downtown La Crosse is likely a temporary issue.

That’s the thinking from downtown city council rep James Cherf, who believes the new, big ramp across from the lot C development is an inevitability.

“I don’t think it’s going to be any real problem,” Cherf said. “The reality is as we have more development downtown, we need more places to put cars.”

The ramp would be built by developer Don Weber and then sold to the city at cost.

One of the ongoing discussion items is exactly what that cost would be, though $13 million seems to be near the expected amount.

Last week, a council committee stopped short of saying yes to a development agreement on the new ramp. The full council votes this week.
