Black Friday today. Small Business Saturday tomorrow. 

Small Business Saturday is an American Express-driven event that focuses on small and local businesses on the day after the biggest shopping day of the year. 

“Small businesses really are the character of our communities,” Robin Moses with the Downtown Mainstreet organization in La Crosse said. “I think we all have a vested interest in maintaining the characters in our town.”  

Moses says spending at local businesses means 45 percent of your cash stays local. That drops to 14 percent when you buy at a national chain or franchise store. Nothing stays local, she says, if you buy online.
