Health expert says if you wanna
quit smoking, quit other bad habits, too

Just a decade ago, 21 percent of American adults smoked.

That’s a big drop from the 60s, when cigarettes were still advertised on TV. But the level of tobacco use continues to fall, now down to 15 percent, according to a national survey.

Health educator Judi Zabel with La Crosse County says it’s a good idea to get people to give up other bad habits, like excessive drinking, at the same time they try to quit smoking.

Zabel says tobacco use still remains high among certain segments of the population – minorities, the poor and people with little formal education.
