Fitzpatrick named volunteer of year

You may have heard about volunteers who work late nights or early mornings at La Crosse’s festivals, to clean up after the guests have gone home.

One group, which does custodial duty at Oktoberfest, got a “thank you” from fest organizers this weekend.

The fest recognized Ron Fitzpatrick as the volunteer of the year, for bringing the men’s club from Holy Trinity Parish to the grounds for clean-up work.

Fest board member Terry Zalewski also was recognized at the Sunday luncheon, calling attention to dozens of groups that help put on Oktoberfest each year.
