Bluffside Tavern to re-open Friday

Truck and trailer lost control coming
down Bliss, smashing into the bar

Customers at one historic La Crosse tavern should be able to go back there for a beer Friday and thereafter, coming off a seven-week shutdown. 

Bluffside Tavern owner Mike Gazeley said Friday will be his first day back in business after the August accident, when a large water truck pulling a heavy trailer and Bobcat was unable to stop heading down Bliss Road and slammed into the north wall of the bar. 

Gazeley made some changes to the interior of the bar., and he said the crash exposed a piece of the bar’s nearly 150-year history, which will now be on display inside the Bluffside.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
