Powell Park gathering tonight to support youth

Some students dedicating year to George Miller, who was murdered last month

La Crosse residents want to help troubled children, especially during times of danger in the community. 

That’s what a member of the local Martin Luther King Community Committee says about a gathering planned for tonight at Powell Park, starting at 6 p.m.  

Gerianne Wettstein says the committee is giving people in the city an opportunity to heal and support children, especially after the Redfield St. shooting death last month, in which the victim was 17 years old, and the suspect, 18. 

Wettstein says committee members want to be mentors to high school students, who are dedicating this year of school to the memory of Central High School student George Miller, who was killed in that shooting.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
