Player alleges Leaf made advances toward him

Winona State University is hiring an independent investigator to look into the incident between its longtime men’s basketball coach and a current player.

The investigation had been dealt with by the university since late June, but WSU president, Scott Olson announced on Aug. 26, an independent investigation would be conducted.

The investigation started June 21 when a player filed a complaint with former men’s basketball coach, Mike Leaf, who resigned days later.

The alleged victim claims Leaf provided alcohol and made unwanted sexual advances after he had passed out in Leaf’s bed, among other things.

During his 17 year tenure as head coach, Leaf led the school to 382 wins and two Division II national championships.
