UPDATED: Winona man dies in barge accident Thursday

Worker fell into barge when hatch shifted

WINONA, Minn. – The dockworker who died in an accident at Winona yesterday has been identified as Winona resident, Brent Burt.  

The 24-year-old fell into a barge on Thursday morning, after a hatch moved unexpectedly.  Burt fell about 15 feet, and apparently died from a severe head injury.

Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack said rescuers were sent to CD Corporation, but Burt died at the scene.
