Central football game cancelled after student death

Announcement comes hours after shooting this morning in La Crosse

The La Crosse Central High School football game scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

An email from Central Community Coordinator Nick Mar-Coo, reads, “The game was cancelled out of respect for the family of a central High School Student who died unexpectedly today in La Crosse.”

The game against Eau Claire north has been rescheduled for noon tomorrow at UW-La Crosse.

The cancellation of the football game comes hours after a shooting this morning in La Crosse that left one person dead.

Police are still investigating the shooting on the southside of La Crosse.

Police say the victim was gunned down as he ran from the shooter just after ten this morning at about the 13 hundred block of Redfield street.

The victim, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. The shooter’s still on the run. Police have a suspect they’re looking for: 18 year-old DeShawn Mitchell Randall, who black and around 5-foot-9. Police say he may be driving a white Dodge Stratus.
