Jewell: Much more investment needed on natural resources

Billions of dollars need to be invested in America’s natural resources, on the Upper Mississippi and elsewhere. That’s what Interior Secretary Sally Jewell says about the risk of letting a Land and Water Conservation Fund expire in a few weeks. Jewell says natural attractions are needed, because kids spend too much of their time in front of electronic screens, instead of going outdoors. The secretary traveled on a boat with Congressman Ron Kind late last week, checking out areas of a local wildlife refuge. She says a trade-off of permitting offshore drilling of fossil fuels comes from putting some of that fuel revenue back into conservation.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
