The WIAA state track meet has been a major tourist draw for La Crosse for over 25 years. The two-day track finals begin today at the U-W-L stadium, and local convention bureau director Dave Clements says the championships bring many athletes and families to town who have never seen La Crosse before.  He says the meet is a wonderful setting that brings people back to town because their experiences are so positive.

Clements says attendance at the track meet has leveled off in the last couple of years, to around 22-thousand. That makes it one of the three biggest tourist events during the year in La Crosse.
