Cuts Coming Possible Coming to Extension Offices

UW-Extension services statewide are expected to lose about $6.9 million if Governor Scott Walker s university system budget cuts are approved. In addition, the budget proposal includes targeted cuts to Cooperative Extension, including sharp cuts in funding for environmental education programs, which would lose another $1.2 million.

Dean of Cooperative Extension, Rick Klemme says some staff cuts could be coming…….or vacant positions like in La Crosse just won’t be filled.

 

According to Klemme, the resulting deficit would be equivalent to roughly 80 county based positions or 50 campus based positions statewide.
