Locals Do Some Camera Shopping

Not as simple as going with the lowest price for a network of surveillance cameras in downtown La Crosse.

That’s what we’re told by Mike Keil, with the La Crosse City Vision Foundation, the group that has spearheaded the fundraising effort for the network of about three dozen cameras throughout the downtown.  Keil says each of the five proposals received by the organization by last Friday’s deadline appear to be good ones but also different in fulfilling the requirements of the project.  Once the cameras are in place, city police will operate them.  The fundraising effort for the cameras has gone well over four hundred thousand dollars.  Apparently, not all of that will be used for the initial cameras.
