Lock And Dam Ice Jam

Thick ice on the Mississippi River has delayed the re-opening of a lock and

dam. The Army Corps of Engineers was planning to re-open Lock 5 A near Fountain City but there was too much ice to open the structure. George Stringham with the U.S. Army of Engineers tells us the delay may not be all bad news.

The lock and dam should now open March 23rd. The average opening in St. Paul is March 24th.
