Lawmakers Request EIS from Army Corps for Marsh Tracks

Now, the feds are getting asked to study whether new rail tracks through La Crosse’s marsh would have an adverse environmental impact.   La Crosse congressman Ron Kind and senator Tammy Baldwin have jointly requested an environmental impact study by the Army Corps of Engineers before a permit is granted for a second set of Burlington Northern tracks through the marsh.  The lawmakers urge the Army Corps to require the study to determine how things like vegetation and wildlife will be affected by filling in about seven acres of the marsh to accomodate the tracks.
