Wheel Tax Plan Shelved By La Crosse Co Board

The wheel tax idea is dead in La Crosse County…for now.

The county board has voted to postpone a 20-dollar vehicle tax indefinitely, after hearing little support for the idea from the public.  Many citizens who have spoken out on the proposal oppose new taxes, or they claim that the tax would exempt large commercial vehicles.  Supervisors also voted to call off an advisory referendum on whether to collect a wheel tax.  Opponents argue that there’s not much point to having a referendum, because the board has a good idea of how it would turn out.
