Drug Drop Off Boxes Now In Place

The next time you expect to visit a Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse or Onalaska,

you might want to clean out your home medicine cabinet first. Permanent drug drop boxes are being introduced at three clinic locations this week.  Those boxes are allowed at pharmacies in Wisconsin, under a new law passed last fall.  Waste coordinator Eric Bashaw with Gundersen warns that the boxes should not be used as an all-purpose garbage can:

Those items, and medical thermometers, should be taken to the county’s household hazardous waste facility on Highway 16.  The drugs collected in the boxes will be burned at special medical incinerators.
