Medal Awarded At White House

La Crosse’s Congressman had a special assignment at the White House yesterday.

President Obama invited Ron Kind, along with Congressman James Sensenbrenner, to stand with Margaret Zerwekh of Delafield at a Medal of Honor ceremony.  Margaret spent about 25 years seeking the military honor for a distant cousin, Alonzo Cushing of Wisconsin, who died while fighting with the Union at the Battle of Gettysburg.  Kind and Sensenbrenner worked most recently to get special permission to bypass time limits so Cushing could receive the medal.
