Council Agrees to Sewer Rate Hike

A sewer rate increase is locked in for next year in La Crosse.  The city council on Thursday agrees to a nearly 10% hike in sewer rates to start at the beginning of the year.   The rate hike was recommended by a consultant who said that the city’s current rates would not be sustainable based on an anticipated seven and a half million dollars in major projects planned for the next five years.   Although the increase is substantial it would still leave La Crosse sewer customers with some of the lowest rates in the state.  The increase would cost the typical homeowner about three and half bucks extra every three months.
