Campbell Board Seeking Settlement With Police Chief; Legally, They Can’t Fire Him

The Campbell police chief is still on leave…and critics of the chief are frustrated that he can’t be fired by the town board. 

After a two-hour closed session of the board, town attorney Brent Smith said Chief Tim Kelemen could only be dismissed by a special panel…not by the elected board members.  Kelemen has admitted to harassing a tea party member by signing him up for internet websites.  With citizens looking on after the meeting, Smith told reporters that a long investigation would be difficult for people on both sides:

The town board asked Smith to talk with Kelemen and his attorney, Jim Birnbaum, to see if a fairly quick settlement can be reached.
