From The Sea To Viterbo
Not many Americans can speak about the experience of being held hostage
by pirates. But retired merchant marine Captain Richard Phillips travels the country, talking about his hostage ordeal of five years ago near Somalia. Phillips gave the first lecture of the semester at Viterbo last night. Phillips says he’s happy that his fame has allowed him to meet all sorts of people, and is pleased when someone says his example helped them:
The movie ‘Captain Phillips’ has been criticized for portraying Phillips as more heroic than crew members claim he was. But Phillips says the real heroes of the pirate incident were the Navy SEALS who came to the rescue.
