Lax Crime Cases May Not Change Much, After Court Ruling On Searching Cellphones

When police pull over a driver, they can search a person’s pocket or a wallet for evidence of a crime.

But because of a new U-S Supreme Court ruling, cellphones, tablets, and i-Pads are out of bounds unless an officer gets a search warrant.  The district attorney of La Crosse County, Tim Gruenke, doesn’t think the ruling will have much effect on police procedure in Wisconsin…but the new technology does help cops get warrants more easily:

The court ruled that cell phones provide access to so much private information, a warrant is needed for to search them, just as police might search a home computer.
