Former Tomah Mayoral Candidate Charged
The former mayoral candidate and city councilman in Tomah that was being
investigated for running for public office as a felon, has now been charged in the case.
Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger charged Le Roy Kelsey Thursday afternoon with two counts of felony false swearing.
The charges surround around Kelsey signing declaration of candidacy papers. Kelsey answered no to being a convicted felon on two declaration of candidacy forms for his mayoral run and when he ran for, and won, a position as a Tomah city councilman in 2011.
Kelsey admitted to that he was convicted of a felony in 1990 and was sentenced to time in county jail and probation. Kelsey told an investigator since he served his time and made restitution, he assumed the felony charges were dropped to a misdemeanor. The complaint said that when he found out about his ineligibility to run for office, he ended his mayoral bid. He
Kelsey will appear in Monroe County court on March 31st.
