Woman Facing Charges After Baby Dies

A Monroe County woman is facing charges of neglecting a child causing death. Cops say 25 year old Cathy Mingus of Norwalk gave birth to a baby girl December 22nd. The woman is accused of neglecting the baby, which was found dead in a bathroom sink by emergency services.

Mingus told police she didn’t know she was pregnant and gave birth to the baby into the toilet bowl. She said she fished the child out and performed CPR on the baby on the floor for 30 minutes.

Police say an autopsy showed the child had signs of being alive when born. The report said a frothy substance found coming from the child’s nose is consistent with a drowning victim.
