Mining Continues Amid Frustrations

A frac sand mining moratorium might be in place in Trempealeau county, but

work on mining operations continues.  Today, a public hearing in Arcadia on a plan for sand loading facility nearby.  The DNR is determining whether to grant a permit for the facility and all of the wetland filling and trout stream rerouting that comes with it.  Nothing hugely impactful from this one facility, predicts the DNR’s Dave Paricek.  But take all of the mining together in the county?  Different story

Paricek says today’s hearing will focus just on the wetland mitigation because of the sand loading facility, not on the environmental impacts of frac sand mining in general.
