Suspect in December stabbing death in La Crosse gets more time to find defense lawyer
The suspect in a deadly stabbing last month in La Crosse is being granted more time to find a defense attorney.
Bryant Q. Smith, charged with first-degree murder, appeared without an attorney during a brief court hearing in La Crosse on Thursday. Smith told Judge Elliott Levine that over 100 different attorneys had been contacted about representing him, on charges of fatally stabbing Timothy “T.J.” Salis at a Stokke Tower apartment on December 5th.
Police say both men had been drinking, and Salis had more than 40 knife wounds. Smith has claimed Salis tried to choke him.
Levine set a new hearing for Smith on January 23rd. Smith remains in the county jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

I know both of Bryant for about 30 years and it doesn’t surprise me. I’ve known T.J. since I was a kid. We grew up on the Northside. He’s a good dude! So what he was drunk and I’m sure they both were arguing or some kind of disagreement like people do when they’re drunk and who knows what was said between the 2 at the time but T.J. did not deserve to be brutally stabbed IN THE BACK! There’s no way any attorney is going to want to try a murder case based on self defense when he stabbed TJ. Over 40 times. I hope LaCrosse don’t screw this one up!
#JUSTICE FOR TJ SALIS!
