La Crosse city council prepares to vote on liquor license for new ownership of Schmidty’s

The planned transfer of Schmidty’s restaurant on Highway 33 in La Crosse to a new owner could take a big step forward at a special Thursday city council meeting.

The council is being asked to approve a liquor license for the prospective buyers, who own Digger’s Sting and the Eagles Nest in La Crosse.

The Schmidt family, which has operated Schmidty’s for decades, recently announced that they were planning to close the bar and restaurant at year’s end.

Those new buyers say they plan few changes to the business, and want to keep the Schmidty’s name.
