La Crosse police identify victim in downtown stabbing death

Police in La Crosse have now released the name of a man stabbed to death last week at a downtown apartment building.

The stabbing victim was 43-year-old Timothy J. Salis, also known as “T.J.”

Salis died on December 5th, after reportedly being stabbed 45 times at the Stokke Tower apartments. Bryant Q. Smith is charged with 1st degree murder.

Smith claimed that he defended himself with a knife when Salis was drunk and tried to choke him. Smith is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in La Crosse next Monday.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.

    Please check the residence of LaCrosse Housing. Trying to choke Josh and Mike, going in Vicky’s apartment and removing her dog.then Vicky was trying to find her apt.keys. Smith to Vicky where to look.Yes they were exactly where Bryant said they would be found.
    All this was reported to LaCrosse Housing Att. They were told their doing all they could. Nothing was ever done.

    He beat a disabled man who lives in the building. He’s one that I thought would snap one day and he did. Poor TJ the terror he had to have gone thru. So sad. ❤️ you TJ

    He has terrorized many people over his sick miserable life. I’m not sure how La Crosse housing authority would allow someone who has abused many vulnerable people to live where they house many vulnerable people.
