A downtown La Crosse business was honored for hiring workers with disabilities.

The Duluth Trading Company store on Main Street, in the Doerflinger building, received an award Wednesday from the Wisconsin Workforce Development Association.

Duluth Trading works with the local APTIV agency to get people with disabilities into jobs.

Store manager Kyle Christopherson accepted the award, saying that having workers with disabilities is a normal part of the business.

“It’s essential,” Christopherson said. “It shows a lot of different creative measures. Also, it creates a different culture within the building in a very positive manner.”

The honor for Duluth Trading comes during National Disability Employment Awareness month.

The Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Democratic state Sen. Brad Pfaff also took part in the award presentation.
