Natural Playspace is dedicated at La Crosse’s Summit School
An elementary school on French Island now has two outdoor playgrounds. The older play area at Summit Environmental School has the traditional metal slide and climbing bars, but it has now been joined by what’s called a Natural Playscape.
A ribbon cutting was held at Summit on Friday for the new $60,000 play area, which features a small hill, rocks, water, and plants, along with a plastic slide and a tunnel.
Summit principal Oscar Uribe calls the playscape “a dream come true” for the school. The project is the result of three years of planning by the La Crosse School District.
The natural play area is designed to help develop physical skills, social skills, and imagination among students at Summit.
